GPA Fundamentals

GPA at SRM is credit weighted not a simple average of your marks. A low grade in a 4 credit subject pulls your GPA down far more than a high grade in a 1 credit subject can lift it back up.

Yes. SRM uses both words for the same thing. It is your score for a single semester on a 10 point scale and the calculation method is identical.

It depends entirely on that subject’s credit value. A 4 credit core subject carries roughly four times the weight of a 1 credit elective in your final GPA.

Ab means you missed the end semester exam without approved leave. It counts as 0 grade points exactly like a fail. Unlike a fail it can sometimes be appealed to the COE with medical proof inside the reevaluation window.

CGPA And Percentage

8.0 or above is strong and opens doors to most product based and core engineering companies. 8.5 and above helps significantly for top tech firms and university admissions abroad.

10.0 is the ceiling. Reaching it means scoring an O grade or 91 marks and above in every subject across all eight semesters.

No. The rule applies separately to every single subject. You can sit at 82 percent overall and still be detained in one lab that sits at 73 percent.

Only between 65 and 74.9 percent and only with valid documentation. Condonation is capped at 10 percent and is reviewed by the Head of Department and senior faculty rather than guaranteed automatically.

Placements And Career Stakes

Mass recruiters such as TCS and Infosys typically look for 6.5 to 7.0. Product based and core engineering companies usually expect 8.0 or higher.

Most recruiters set cutoffs between 60 and 70 percent which equals a CGPA between 6.0 and 7.0 using SRM’s official conversion formula.
